We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition.

The dial is the sought after cream enamel on copper with blue lettering and is complete with original blued steel hands. There is a large and elaborate acanthus finial to the top of the case. Modelled in gilt brass and typically bold, waisted design with laurel leaves, 'C' scrolls and floral swags. HTH.~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~Ī lovely original antique French Rococo boudoir clock. Anyway it is a typically elaborate French garniture set and nice to see it is all still together as many get separated. I haven’t seen opaque glass in a rear door before which seems a little odd. The movement would have been sourced separately and the garniture set was made by FC though I don’t know anything about him. It is interesting to note the continued use of count wheel striking on a bell at such a late date. The Thiebel bob is often seen on French movements and he also designed a type of suspension around 1870 which your movement may have as it doesn’t appear to be a Brocot one as it is enclosed though it may be a Vallet suspension. According to Allix his name appears on a wrapper of Japy blanc roulants for carriage clocks so he obviously sourced some roulants from Japy and finished them. Mougin is said to have exhibited roulants in 1900 and as his trademark contains Deux Medailles he presumably won two medals at exhibitions. Hi James, there doesn’t appear to be a great deal of info about Mougin around but he is listed as working in Herimoncourt in the late 1800s which is in the Montbeliard region of France one of the main clock making areas. I apologize for such a lengthy posting with numerous questions. If more are needed, I will gladly post them.
A.d.mougin clockmaker how to#
Lastly, any thoughts on the originality of the rear glass and any ideas on how to identify the bronze maker would be appreciated. Also, what is the style for this type clock. Would this clock set have been made by Mougin or possibly someone else? As I understand it, Mougin may have only supplied the works and someone else may have assembled the works to the set. I would appreciate any thoughts on when this clock may have been made as well as any information on A.D. Although it looks original, I am not sure about the rear opaque glass. Everything appears to be original, including the front convex glass. Also, the piece that surrounds the works inside the clock is signed by what appears to be Vandonck in old script with the number 176 and what appears to be Nancoy. The inside base of the clock is stamped FC 570 and V V on the bottom of a rear foot. The inside bronze pieces are stamped with FC and a number.

I attempted to research the maker of the bronze work, but was unsuccessful. The pendulum is suspended by a suspension spring.
A.d.mougin clockmaker serial number#
The pendulum is marked Thieble and is stamped with the serial number of the movement. The clock is about 25" tall and about 16" wide. The entire set is made of bronze and is quite heavy. The person I bought it from bought it from a clock dealer in Paris, France about 25 years ago. I bought this set several days ago and would appreciate any ideas on the date of this set. I am fairly new to the board and clock collecting as well.
